Brian Moran Takes Lead in Polls
posted March 31, 2009
Public Policy Polling’s latest survey finds that Virginia’s Democratic primary race for governor is still tight, with Brian Moran receiving 22%, Terry McAuliffe getting 18%, and Creigh Deeds polling third at 15%. 45% of respondents are still undecided.
Respondents have roughly equal opinions about the favorability of each candidate. Moran is polling at 34/15 favorability, Deeds has 31/12 favorability, and McAuliffe is polling at a 32/29 split.
“Brian Moran has taken the lead this month after Terry McAuliffe had it last month,” said Dean Debnam, President of Public Policy Polling. “But all the movement is within the margin of error, and this remains a very close three-way race.”

Jane Vitray was not born a Virginian, but the citizens of Virginia and the Democratic Party are fortunate she chose this Commonwealth. She was from Hoboken, New Jersey and was the best of “Eastern Liberal”. .
In the late 1960’s and early 1970’s she was the first woman to be Chair of the Fairfax County Democratic Committee. That is when I met her. Jane called and summoned me to her home and asked me to be the FCDC Finance Chair. I do not know why she asked but you did not say no to Jane. FCDC and the old 10th CD headquarters were in Falls Church City and you could find Jane there every day. On the walls were photos from the past Johnson and Johnson race (Lyndon and Gus) of the 1960’s. She had worked hard for both candidates. She went on to work for Lyndon’s son-in-law Chuck Robb.

Chairman Richard Cranwell and Northern Virginia elected Democrats addressed a rally today in Annandale, down the road from the Republican gubernatorial candidate’s announcement. Cranwell praised all three Democratic
candidates, recalled the successes of the Warner and Kaine administrations (best managed state in the country, etc.), and made it clear that the GOP candidate opposed those progressive efforts. Sen. Mary Margaret Whipple in particular pointed out GOP opposition to adequate funding for education. Cranwell said that the GOP candidate was trying to reinvent himself as a moderate, but it won’t work. Cranwell, who is running for reelection as state party chair will be attending events around the Commonwealth today to tell the truth about the GOP ticket.

Earlier this month, Fairfax County At-Large School Board Member Ilryong Moon lost a special election to Kings Park Homeowners Association President, John Cook by 89 votes. 3 days before the election, The Washington Post endorsed Cook saying he "had the slight edge" "based on his ability to present a different point of view without being reactionary or doctrinaire," and that the Board was "sometimes too devoted to consensus." Just days ago, The Washington Post Editorial Board mentioned Cook again calling Cook a "pragmatist" and not a "socially conservative purist."
Well, Cook has spoken. He spoke at his swearing in ceremony. You can watch it here. The sheepskin has come off of the wolf.
