Republican John Cook wins Braddock seat by 89 votes (total votes cast: 13,133; turnout: 18.6%; election return click here [PDF]). Congratulations to Democrat Ilryong Moon on a hard fought race. This seat became available when previous Supervisor Sharon Bulova won the Chairman’s race. Sharon held the Braddock District Supervisor seat since 1987.
Voter Verifiable Elections
Significant problems arose with one of two WinVote electronic voting machines in Fairview precinct. No optical scan ballots were available for this special election. Analysis of the voting machine made it very clear that a voter verifiable audit trail is absolutely required for reliable, secure, verifiable, and transparent elections; however, budget constraints prevent the needed purchase of both the optical scan machines and printing of optical scan ballots anytime soon.
