What a great day: beautiful weather, free hot dogs and beer and an enthusiastic crowd of Democrats for Lee District’s Opening Day. Thanks to the Lee District Democatic Committee for making the day a success.

Lee District welcomed state-wide candidates Brian Moran, Mike Signer and Steve Shannon as well as speakers for Terry McAuliffe, Jody Wagner, and Pat Edmonson.

2009 is an important year, since the House of Delegates 2-year term expires this year, and it is the final opportunity to gain a majority before the decennial redistricting following the census. Lee District is represented in the House by Delegates Kris Amundson, David Englin, Mark Sickles and Vivan Watts. Kris was in Minnesota, today; however, David, Mark and Vivian each spoke to the crowd of 60 about the importance of winning 6 more Democratic House seats for a majority.

Other elected officials and party officers present included Chairman Sharon Bulova, Senator George Barker, State Party (DPVA) Secretary Pixie Bell, 8th Congressional District Democratic Committee Chair Margo Horner, and DPVA Women’s Caucus Chair Rachel Rifkind.
