Laverne Taylor, In Memoriam

Laverne W. Taylor, 96, of McLean, VA, died September 14, 2010, at Arlington Hospital, following a stroke.

Born September 2, 1914, she is survived by her husband of 66 years, Archer; sons, David, Larry, and Ken; grandchildren, Kristina Taylor, Lisa Westbrook, Bradley Taylor, and Colin Taylor; three great-grandchildren, and niece, Sheila Massie. She was preceded in death by daughter Margaret Taylor Chase. Services private; however, Archer said all Dems welcome.

Services: Langley Hill Friends Meeting Hall, 6410 Georgetown Pike, McLean, VA 22010 (map, click here). Saturday, September 25, 2010 at 2:00 pm with reception at 3. There will be a shuttle from Langley High School.

Following the 2010 Census (pop. 118,949) and redistricting, Lee District is one of nine Supervisor Districts in Fairfax County Virginia with 23 precincts and just over 69,000 registered voters (1.3% of all active registered voters in Virginia, 9.8% of those in Fairfax County). Across these 23 precincts, Lee District is represented by two United States Congressional Districts (the 8th and 11th), four Virginia Senate Districts (the 30th, 35th, 36th and 39th), and three Virginia Delegate Districts (the 39th, 43rd, and 44th). 28 elected officials represent Lee District: 23 are Democrats. Lee District is located in the Franconia part of the county. It includes parts of Alexandria (the Fairfax County part, not the City of Alexandria), Rose Hill, and Springfield. Lee District is bounded on the north by the Beltway (I-495) and extends from Route 1 (Richmond Highway) in the east, past I-95 to the west. To the south, Lee District extends to the intersection of Telegraph Road and Beulah Street. Lee District includes Springfield Mall, the Franconia-Springfield Metro station and Amtrak train station, Springfield Plaza, Kingstowne, Beacon Mall, Rose Hill and Hybla Valley Shopping Centers, Lee District Park and REC Center, Huntley Meadows Park and historic Huntley House, Greenspring Retirement Community, INOVA Healthplex, and the US Coast Guard Navigation Center. High school students who live in Lee District attend Lee, Edison and Hayfield High Schools.

The Lee District Democratic Committee (LDDC) is a magisterial district committee within the Fairfax County Democratic Committee (FCDC). Our mission is to elect Democrats to public office. As part of FCDC, LDDC is part of the Fairfax County arm of the Democratic Party of Virginia and serves to help promote the principles of the Democratic Party and elect Democratic Candidates to offices at the County, State and National level. The Lee District Democratic Committee provides to FCDC the volunteer organization and activities necessary to elect Democratic candidates.
