- Tim Kaine announces Senate run
It’s official! Governor Tim Kaine has decided to run for the U. S. Senate seat currently held by Senator Jim Webb. Kaine brings a solid record of results-oriented leadership to the race built on a successful term as our Governor. To watch Governor Kaine’s announcement video click here. - General Assembly convenes to consider redistricting plans
The Virginia General Assembly convened yesterday to consider plans to redraw the state’s legislative districts to conform with the 2010 census. The process is inherently political due to years of refusal by Bob McDonnell and House Republicans to support meaningful bipartisan redistricting reforms offered by Democrats. - DPVA and OFA team up for successful grassroots trainings
Over the past several weeks the DPVA and OFA teamed up to offer grassroots trainings to activists from across the Commonwealth to help prepare Democrats to promote the Democratic agenda in their own communities in 2011. The trainings focused on organizing tools, new media training and tips for building successful political events. - Meddlesome McDonnell miffs Republican allies
The Richmond-Times Dispatch’s Jeff Schapiro wrote two recent columns on Governor McDonnell’s mysterious compulsion to worm his way into matters that would otherwise be settled and disrupt them. Schapiro, who said that McDonnell’s tendency to be a “buttinsky” is drawing the ire of his Republican colleagues, referenced the Governor’s veto of a carefully crafted agreement to raise medical malpractice limits in Virginia and his meddling with laws and regulations governing the Judiciary. - Mills urges Virginians to stand up for the middle class
DPVA Executive Director David Mills submitted a guest column to Vivian Paige’s All Politics is Local blog laying out the case for fighting for middle class families that are the backbone of our economy. Virginia has the 3rd widest gap between rich and poor in the nation and Republican efforts to cut education and other key investments in people threaten to make matters far worse.
