Jack Dobbyn for Delegate 42nd District
Jun 17th, 2011 | By LDDC | Category: DemNews
In this year with so many races, we’re encouraging all of our local Democrats to work in their own respective home districts, but we also have to pay tribute to one of our past members and Lee District residents who is running for office outside of Lee District, Jack Dobbyn for Delegate 42nd District (www.JackDobbyn.com). We have a special affection for Jack since he was our treasurer when he and Katie lived in Groveton. About the 42nd District, click here.
Jack is running against Dave Albo, who has served since 1994. By all accounts Dave is a nice person and well-liked in his district. The problem is that Republicans like Dave Albo vote together in the General Assembly with a Ken Cuccinelli conservative ideology that ignores the concerns of most Virginians.
The extreme conservative agenda pursued relentlessly by Virginia’s Attorney General, Ken Cuccinelli, is something that despite how hard Dave Albo tries to run from he still votes along with:
Richmond Sunlight (cached page) – 73% of bills he copatroned were introduced by Republicans. Of all of the copatrons of his bills, 69% of them are Republicans. Of all of the copatrons of all of the bills that he also copatroned, 63% of them are Republicans.
In C-Ville, Charlottesville News & Arts, quotes Dave Albo from a New York Times expose on Cuccinelli, “Most of this—the states’ rights battles, the challenge to the university elites, the culture-war skirmishes—has endeared Ken Cuccinelli to the conservative base both in Virginia and across the country. He’s the toast of the Tea Party, “a tea partier before there was a Tea Party,” in the admiring words of Republican State Delegate Dave Albo. ”.
On the other hand, Anita Kumar of the Washington Post quotes Jack as running to “cast partisanship and special interests aside” and “use the same business-minded approach to deal with the problems’’ as he does in his capacity as vice president of operations at his family’s real estate consulting firm.
Jack is a new generation of Democrat: youthful and idealistic, a realist and pragmatic, someone who is smart and savvy, someone who has grown up with expectations again of Hope and Change.
June 14, 2011
This morning I announced my candidacy for the Virginia House of Delegates to represent the 42nd District. The 42nd District encompasses Lorton, Fairfax Station, Mason Neck, Mt. Vernon and West Springfield.
My wife Katie and I are proud to be raising our two daughters, Victoria and Marie, in the same Mt. Vernon neighborhood where I was born and raised. As young parents with roots in the community, we appreciate the benefits and challenges faced by long-time and newer residents raising families in Fairfax County.
I’m running for Delegate because I want to make sure my daughters enjoy the same opportunities that I had growing up, and I want the same for you and your family. Southern Fairfax County deserves real leadership in Richmond, and I will be a tireless advocate for better schools, roads, transit, and our fair share of the tax dollars we send there.
I have long been active in our community, volunteering as a coach in the same Woodlawn Little League that my brother and I played in as kids, and serving our community through Mt. Vernon Kiwanis Club, an organization dedicated serving our community’s youth, and the Knights of Columbus Council. And as the Vice President of my family’s real estate consulting business, I understand what it takes to meet a payroll, create jobs, and grow our local economy.
Like you, I’m tired of the excuses and endless bickering in Richmond. I will cast partisanship and special interests aside and use the same business-minded approach to deal with the problems facing Fairfax County.
As a small businessman, I pursued the challenges facing my company and got the job done. As your Delegate I will be a working partner to anyone serious about solving problems and strengthening the quality of life in our community.
Working together, we can create a brighter future for both my children and yours, and to ensure that Fairfax County remains a great place to live – but I can’t do it without your help. I’m asking you to take three simple steps to make sure we have real leadership in Richmond:
Stay Informed and Donate Your Time
The best way to communicate to a voter is through a personal conversation. And it takes the efforts of people like yourself to make this possible. We just can’t win without volunteers like you. The status quo in Richmond will do whatever they can to make sure Fairfax County is not a priority in the House of Delegates. We need the resources to make sure our voice is heard. Your contribution of $10, $25, $50 or $100 and more will make a huge difference in spreading our message to the voters.
- Please don’t hesitate to contact me as we start our campaign. The best way to reach me is through my email address, jack@jackdobbyn.com. Together, we will provide the real leadership that Fairfax County deserves.
Sincerely,
Jack Dobbyn
