Since the last redistricting ten years ago, it became apparent that some changes to precinct boundaries and poll locations could make it easier for voters in Lee District to vote (new map click here).  There was significant consideration for consolidating all the redistricting changes into one time frame if possible, and after public hearings with citizen comment, Supervisor McKay, voted along with the majority to accept the proposed precinct boundary and poll location changes at the regularly scheduled July 26, 2011 Board of Supervisors meeting.

Precinct changes by necessity needed to follow State Senate – House, Supervisor District redistricting changes, and still be completed in time for DOJ approval and implementation (new voter registration cards) for the November 8, 2011 General Election.

It is important to note that for the August 23, 2011 Primary Elections voting will be conducted at the existing poll locations (click here). The new precinct changes (and poll locations) take effect September 1, 2011 (and are still subject to the anticipated Department of Justice approval). There is only one Democratic primary in Lee District for the 30th Senate District (see more here). 

Precinct Changes Summarized

• two new precincts: 1) Hybla Valley precinct is formed from dividing a large population growth in Groveton precinct, so that now there is a Groveton and Hybla Valley precinct, 2) Pinewood precinct is formed from both dividing a large population growth in Fairfield precinct and the addition of a small part of Mt. Vernon District (part of Woodlawn precinct), reuniting a community, so that now there is a Fairfield and Pinewood precinct 
• one precinct merged into two others: Wilton precinct has been merged into Virginia Hills and Mt. Eagle precincts
• three new poll locations (improved parking and access): 1) Van Dorn precinct voted at Franconia Elementary School, and will now vote at Key Middle School, 2) Franconia precinct voted at the Kingstowne Synder Center, and will now vote at Edison High School, and 3) Groveton precinct voted at Hybla Valley Elementary School, and will now vote a Groveton Elementary School
