Bylaws were adopted with one amendment (restoring Emeritus membership status) along with Resolution on the Authority and Responsibility of the Elected Officers (only one change for Finance Committee).

New members elected after the magisterial district reorganization caucuses were confirmed by the full committee.

Petitions for Kaine for Senate were available for each of the three Congressional Districts in Fairfax County (8, 10, 11), and almost everyone was able to sign them before the meeting.

You may join the committee at any time, but those who file by the 1^st will be eligible to vote for our new FCDC officers in January. Members elected December 10th also then elect new Lee District Democratic Committee officers. We will also designate representatives from Lee District for FCDC Standing Committees.

Every 2 years each city and county Democratic committee in Virginia undergoes reorganization* at which time we renew memberships, elect new members, and officers (current members must renew their membership application and prospective members must submit a membership application as directed by our Bylaws). This required renewal reenergizes the Committee and reaffirms member participation. Members elected will also then have an opportunity elect a new FCDC Chair and other officers at our January 3^rd FCDC Reorganization Meeting.  * Virginia Democratic Party Plan, Article 8.

Fairfax County received approval from the Department of Justice for proposed boundary changes to the nine Supervisor Districts following the 2010 census. Lee District will change only slightly, but noticeably, re-uniting the Pinewood Lake neighborhood at the southeastern border of the district with a corresponding creation of a new precinct – Pinewood (Woodlawn Precinct is divided along Frye Road.  Frye Road becomes the eastern boundary of the Woodlawn Precinct. The area east of Frye Road becomes a new precinct to be named “Pinewood” and then be included in the Lee District. The Pinewood polling place will be the Mount Vernon Woods Elementary School).

For Lee District that means one new Senate district, the 35th (D-Saslaw), and one less House district, the 45th (D-Englin). These newly approved district boundaries will therefore be used in the upcoming primaries, caucuses and the November 8th General Election.

2011 is a BIG year when it comes to the number of campaigns, and it will fall to the local committee to help coordinate with these campaigns for election success. We’ll be looking at the year ahead and our tentative calendar, setup planning committees for perennial events (Opening Day, Luau), discuss party building (Coffee & Conversation, precinct parties, new resident welcome, valued added activities, etc.).

The 2011 State of the Union Address will be a speech given by President Barack Obama at 9 p.m. EST on January 25, 2011, in the chamber of the United States House of Representatives. As always, the presiding officers of the United States Senate and the United States House of Representatives will sit behind him. As the Republican Party gained a majority in the House during the 2010 midterm elections, this will be the first State of the Union address with Speaker of the House John Boehner seated behind the President.

On Tuesday, January 25th, I will stand before Congress and the country to discuss the State of the Union.

Two years ago, when I first addressed a joint session of Congress, this country faced a crisis unlike anything since the Great Depression—an economy that had spiraled out of control, putting millions out of work.

Today, we’re in a different place. An economy that was shrinking is now growing again. But across the country, millions are struggling every day—to find work, to pay their bills, to provide for their families.

It is clear that the moment we now face demands a vision for how we as a people will win the future.

And that vision—that agenda—will be the topic of my State of the Union address.

As the messengers, volunteers, and organizers of this movement, you will play a critical role in carrying out that agenda. Because of that, I want you to have an advance look at what I’ll ask of Congress on Tuesday.

I will talk to the nation about how we can win the future by out-innovating, out-educating, and out-building the rest of the world. By dealing with our deficits and our debt in a responsible way, and reforming government so that it’s leaner and smarter for the 21st century.
