With a federal government shutdown appearing increasingly likely, please join Congressman Jim Moran this Thursday, April 7th at an emergency town hall meeting to discuss the impact on the federal workforce, contractors, and local economy if a shutdown occurs.

The 8th District has one of the largest populations of federal employees in the country, home to more than 65,000 civil servants and in which more than 110,000 federal employees come to work each day. The current Continuing Resolution funding the federal government expires at midnight, April 8th. If not extended, on April 9th nearly half the federal workforce would be furloughed until Congress passes a budget. Our federal workforce is one of our greatest assets. A shutdown of the government will be particularly harmful to these workers, their families, those that do business with the government and local businesses that cater to their needs.

One year before the Mark Center is scheduled to be occupied, stakeholders to discuss progress, problems

Washington, D.C.— On Thursday, September 16th, Congressman Jim Moran (D-VA) will host a special community town hall to discuss the Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) 133 situation at the Mark Center site in Alexandria. The event comes one year out from the military’s stated date of implementing the major BRAC relocation.

Six thousand four hundred people are scheduled to start work in the new Mark Center facility on September 15, 2011. Congressman Moran has raised major concerns regarding the traffic problems that will be caused by this relocation. He has passed legislation in the House restricting the amount of parking available at the site in an effort to force the military to upgrade the Mark Center’s transportation infrastructure to prevent the anticipated crippling traffic congestion.

This event is free and open to the public.
